It took a little longer than Tar Heel fans would’ve liked but Caleb Love has announced that he will be returning for the 2022-23 season, joining Armando Bacot, R.J. Davis, and Leaky Black as other Tar Heels to announce their return for next season. Love’s decision was tougher than the aforementioned Bacot, and Black, as the run to the national title game, did improve his draft stock, as he made many big plays, on college basketball’s biggest stage. Like his other teammates though, Love wants to finish the job Carolina started with their run to the national championship game, and he’s coming back to try and hang another banner in the Smith Center rafters.

Love was a member of the “Iron 5” that propelled Carolina to the brink of the national championship, with Brady Manek out of eligibility, Carolina returns the other four starters from their starting lineup for the national title game. Love finished second on the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game. He was tied with R.J. Davis, for the team’s assist leader at 3.6. He also led the team in free-throw shooting and was second on the team in three-point shooting.

With Carolina returning four starters from last season, they will enter the 2022-23 season, as one of the favorites to win the national championship. With the Final Four being back in Houston (site of the 2016 Final Four), the Tar Heels have the opportunity to write the ultimate comeback story once again.
