Heel Tough Blog: Carolina Adds Western Carolina to 2020 Schedule

A few weeks ago, Carolina had its game against Charlotte cancelled due to COVID-19 issues within the 49er program. After that week, the Tar Heels had a bye week scheduled meaning they would’ve had almost a 3 week layoff in between games. Head coach Mack Brown and the program did their best to find an opponent for last week, but weren’t able to find a suitable team to play against. Today the program announced they’ve added Western Carolina to the schedule, and will host the Catamounts on Friday, December 11th. The Tar Heels last played Western Carolina back in 2017, and 2018 both decisive wins for UNC. Carolina has reserved the right to move the game within the season, if an ACC contest was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The game against Western Carolina if played on the agreed scheduled date would take place a week before the 2020 ACC Championship game, which Carolina has aspirations to compete in this season.

The #12 Tar Heels return to the gridiron this weekend for the first time since beating Syracuse 31-6 in the opener, when they travel to Chestnut Hill to battle Boston College. This will be the first time since 2013 the two teams will play against each other, and the first time since 2009 that Carolina makes the pilgrimage up north. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 kickoff, and will be televised on ABC.
