The Tar Heels continued their preparations for the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Saturday and did so with some new faces in attendance.
Five members of the 2024 class were in pads with the team earlier today during their practice session over at the Bill Koman Practice Complex. The five consisted of 4✮ S Malcolm Ziglar, 4✮ WR Jordan Shipp, 4✮ WR Alex Taylor, 3✮ ATH Khalil Conley and PWO OL Hayes Galloway. These players, who will all be early enrollees at the start of next month will practice with the team the remainder of the way and will be with the team in Charlotte.
Getting these guys on campus, even if they don’t play in the bowl game, is huge. Shipp and Taylor were both guys that had teams pushing hard to flip them and them joining the team ends those pursuits. Ziglar getting some extra practice reps could allow him to factor race for snaps at safety next year with both current starting safeties gone.
The early signing period begins on Wednesday and the expectation is that at least 20 of the team’s 27 commitments will sign early. Brown said that the team will have 15 guys in total that will be joining the team before the bowl game.
