Heel Tough Blog: George Pettaway Commitment Preview

The Tar Heels have done some major damage on the 2022 recruiting trail in the state of Virginia and they will look to continue that on Wednesday evening.

2022 4✮ RB George Pettaway will reveal his decision at 6:30 PM tomorrow night on CBS Sports HQ from his high school. He announced his decision to commit last Monday following the revelation of his top four back on August 8th, which featured the Tar Heels along with Florida, Oregon and Penn State.

Pettaway, the No. 7 running back in the 2022 class, had a busy summer, but the majority of visits that he took were unofficials, including his stop in Chapel Hill for “The Cookout” back in late July 31st. The Tar Heels have been thought to be pacing the field for a while now in this recruitment with Florida being the biggest challengers. Following that unofficial visit to “The Cookout”, there was a lot of smoke around Pettaway and Tar Heels and the thought was that a decision was coming soon. While this recruitment has extended a little further than some would have thought after that visit, the Tar Heels have to still feel very confident about where they sit right now.

The recruiting experts seem to agree that the Tar Heels have a great chance to lock up their second running back of this class to pair with fellow 4✮ Omarion Hampton. All four of the predictions on 247Sports are in favor of Mack Brown and his staff, including ones cast by Steve Wiltfong, the director of football recruiting for 247Sports, and Brian Dohn, a national recruiting analyst who has been following Pettaway’s commitment closely. Rivals FutureCast is in the same boat, as all six of their predictions, all of which have been cast in the last month, favor the Tar Heels heading into tomorrow’s commitment.

Barring something unforeseen or a last-minute change of heart, it appears that the Tar Heels are well on their way to adding another headliner to this 2022 class and another one of the nation’s top running backs.

Prediction: North Carolina
