The Heels officially have their first commitment of the 2021 class. Following Saturday evening’s Mack Brown Showtime Camp, 2021 4✮ ATH Dontavius Nash committed to Carolina in front of the coaching staff.
Nash, who hails from Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, NC, was a key contributor defensively a year ago for a Hunter Huss team that posted one of it’s best seasons in program history. Nash finished with 50 total tackles, pulled in two interceptions and had four pass deflection while splitting time at cornerback. He also caught eight passes for 163 yards and a touchdown as a rotational receiver. This year, with most of the key contributors on both sides of the ball gone, expect Nash to have a sizable impact on both sides of the football.
Nash can play just about anywhere in the secondary, as he spends most of his time in zone coverage and has the closing speed necessary to make plays on the football. His straight-line speed also makes him tough to deal with when he lines up at wide receiver and his shiftiness makes him dangerous after the catch. My best guess would be that Nash will play on the defensive side of the football based off of what we’ve seen from him, but with two years remaining before he arrives on campus, many things could change with this prediction.
Nash is the first commitment for the Heels in the 2021 class. His commitment vaults the Heels up to 20th overall in the 2021 247sports Composite rankings and 3rd in the ACC.
