Heel Tough Blog: Kamen Smith Commitment Preview

ZWC Sports

The Tar Heels weekend started off with 2023 3✮ OT target Koby Keenum committing elsewhere, but they will still have the chance to add an offensive line piece to the class on Sunday in the form of a major in-state target.

3✮ OT Kamen Smith from Wilkes Central High School in Wilkesboro, NC will reveal his destination at 3:00 PM EST on Sunday where he will pick between his top four schools that he released on Wednesday. The Tar Heels are joined by NC State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech as the four that will be keeping an eye on this decision, although the Gamecocks do seem like a distant fourth team in this race after not receiving an official visit last month. Each of the other three finalists received an official visit and appear to have a shot heading into tomorrow.

NC State was the leader for him entering the month of June with Virginia Tech seeming like they were the biggest challenger, but the Tar Heels put themselves squarely in the running with their official visit. This one seems to be neck-and-neck and heading in, this one feels like it could go the way of any of the three teams.

Across the four major recruiting platforms, there are only three predictions that have been cast by experts and all of them have been cast by NC State insiders. Add in the fact that two of the three were cast prior to the Tar Heel official visit even getting underway and it’s hard not to think that this decision is more of a toss up than any of the others that we have broken down recently.

This one is a tough one to predict because of how cloudy things appear to be right now. I know NC State has been tied to him the longest, but there seemed to be a really positive reaction from him after his official visit to campus. I will go bold here and take a shot in the dark to say the Tar Heels did just enough to pull in their third offensive line commit of the class.

Prediction: North Carolina
