The Tar Heels added their fifteenth commitment of the 2023 cycle on Friday night and they will attempt to add another on Saturday in the form of a major in-state target.
3✮ WR Kevin Concepcion has not set his official time yet but will decide either before the first game of his senior season tomorrow afternoon or at halftime of the game. As he revealed earlier this week, the decision is officially down to the Tar Heels and rival NC State.
Throughout the last couple of weeks it has been made known that this is a coin flip between the two finalists. That remains the case heading into the decision and both sides have to feel like they have the chance to land him. The Wolfpack have always been perceived as the slight leader for nearly his entire recruitment, but it seems like the Tar Heels were able to pull even with the official visit that they hosted back on the weekend of June 24th. The question now is, did they do enough to overtake the Wolfpack when it matters the most in this race?
The experts don’t seem to think that that will be the case. Across the three major recruiting sites, only five predictions have been cast, but all five favor NC State. The three crystal ball predictions are all a couple of months old, but the Rivals FutureCast prediction and the On3 prediction have both been cast in the past week in their favor. It doesn’t seem that any of these predictions are all that confident at this point, but it can’t be a coincidence that every one is going the way of the Wolfpack.
The Tar Heels have certainly made a push here and heading in, they should feel like they have a legitimate chance to come away with the commitment. However, it seems like there may just be a little too much to overcome in the end.
