Saturday will see two Tar Heel targets in the 2023 class announce their commitments, starting bright and early at 10 AM with 4✮ IOL Layth Ghannam.
Ghannam, the No. 1 player in the state of West Virginia, revealed Thursday that he will choose between a final four of Carolina, NC State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia on Saturday. The Tar Heels hosted him for an official visit in Chapel Hill back on the weekend of May 20th and he just recently took one to in-state West Virginia last weekend. However, it is a team that has not yet gotten an official visit that appears to be in the driver’s seat heading into his commitment.
The Virginia Tech Hokies are the team currently being forecasted to land his commitment by the major recruiting sites. 247Sports has casted three crystal balls in favor of Brent Pry and company, all coming within the last week and all of which having a high confidence level. They also own the lone prediction on Rivals at this time from Tim Sullivan. The Hokies also hold a massive edge according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine heading into tomorrow.
When his official visits began, it looked like the Tar Heels were going to be the biggest threat to West Virginia for his commitment. However, it appears that his official visits to Chapel Hill and Morgantown seemed to show him that Blacksburg is where he wants to be. Barring something stunning, this one will not go the Tar Heels way on Saturday.
