A week after R.J. Davis was named the ACC Freshman of the Week, his teammate Caleb Love was also given the award. Love, who averaged 17.5 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists in the Tar Heels two wins last week, is starting to turn the corner for Carolina. He scored a career best 20 points in the win over Wake Forest on Wednesday, then scored 15 points in the win over NC State on Saturday. With the honors, Love joins Davis and Day’Ron Sharpe as other Tar Heels to win the award this season.
This level of play was expected from Love upon arriving on campus, and while it’s taken some time for it to come together, it hasn’t been due to a lack of effort. It has been noted over the last couple of weeks that Love, has been staying in the gym after games, wins even to continue to get better at his game. After a road win at Miami, Roy Williams noted that Love is going to be a big time player for Carolina, it was just a matter of when, not if. While his numbers aren’t pretty, he’s averaging 10.5 points, on just 31% shooting from the field, you have to admire and respect his hard work and dedication, despite all the negativity around his performance on the court. If this past week was any indication, there are big things on the horizon for Love and the Tar Heels in general.
