Heel Tough Blog: Roy Williams Continues Active Recruiting

After offering Mark Mitchell on Wednesday night, Coach Roy Williams stayed active on the recruiting trail, offering Jabari Smith this morning.

Smith is a 6-foot-10, 210 pound power forward from Tyrone, Georgia. Smith is a five star, and listed by 247Sports as the 4th prospect in the 2021 class.

According to MaxPreps.com, as a junior at Sandy Creek High School, Smith averaged 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game. Smith has the ability to dominate a game inside and out. He has a plethora of low post moves, a reliable perimeter jumper, and thrives in transition and pick-and-pop situations.

A large number of Smith’s offers come from the SEC and include Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia Tech, and Florida State.

North Carolina now has eight offers out for the 2021 class. Smith joins Chet Holmgren, Hunter Sallis, Kennedy Chandler, Harrison Ingram, Patrick Baldwin Jr, Trevor Keels, and D’Marco Dunn.

Many view Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee as the early favorites, but it has been no secret that a North Carolina offer would change the complexion of Smith’s recruitment. The Carolina offer potentially catapults the Heels to the top. It is far too early to assume, but the 2021 class has the potential to be special.
