Heel Tough Blog: Showtime Camp Preview

Inside Carolina

Saturday, the Heels will host their biggest recruiting event of the year in the form of the Showtime camp that is taking place of Larry Fedora’s Freakshow camp. The list of attendees is impressive to say the least, containing many of the Tar Heels top targets in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes. Let’s take a look at the top five attendees to keep an eye on if you’re in attendance on Saturday.

2020 5WDE Desmond Evans

Evans will be the player that many will have their eye fixated on, as the in-state defensive end makes his third visit to Chapel Hill in the last week. Evans should dominate the defensive line drills as he always has, but it will be interesting to see what will likely be a solid amount of reps at outside linebackers for him. If he thrives, Tar Heel fans hunger will only grow to land the top in-state prospect in the 2020 cycle.

2020 4DT Kedrick Bingley-Jones

This is one prospect whose recruitment has changed immensely since Mack Brown arrived on campus. The new staff has reportedly made major progress with the flexible defensive lineman and Saturday will be Bingley-Jones’ official visit to campus. Bingley-Jones not only has a chance to show how he’ll fit in Bateman’s defensive front, but the Heels have their chance to make a lasting impression.

2021 5DT Payton Page

Page might be the most talented overall player to step on the field on Saturday and that should help him to stand out amongst an absolutely loaded defensive line group. The Heels continue to be in good shape and the fact that Page is in Chapel Hill this weekend is a good sign. Now the question is, can Page dominate on Saturday as many expect?

2020 4S Ja’Qurious Conley

For the first time on this list, we turn away from the defensive line and look at what might the best in-state prospect that doesn’t play along the defensive line. For many, Conley is still a bit of an unknown, but that won’t be the case for long. Saturday will be a chance for him to showcase what might be one of the best all-around safety skillsets in the 2020 class. It will be interesting to compare him to Carolina commit Cameron Roseman-Sinclair, who has dominated offseason camps in the state of North Carolina for each of the last two seasons.

2022 UR WR Shaleak Knotts

The final member of this list might not be as well known as most of the other prospects who will be in attendance and probably isn’t even the best 2022 prospect that will be on camp. However, skill position players always draw the eyeballs and Knotts should be one that benefits from it. If Knotts can stand out amongst a solid group of talented wide receivers, that may land him an offer from the Heels following the conclusion of the camp.
