Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels 2024 4✮ TE Target Commits to Rutgers

The Tar Heels landed their first target to announce his commitment on Thursday, but weren’t nearly as lucky with their second.

Earlier this evening, 2024 4✮ TE Korey Duff Jr. announced his commitment to Rutgers over the Tar Heels via social media. The Melville, NY native was down to those two schools following official visits to both and a cancellation of his trip to Miami.

Duff Jr. seemed to be really excited by the way that the Scarlet Knights are wanting to use him on offense. They looked at him as more of an outside receiver than a tight end, unlike the Tar Heels and others that were pursuing. The proximity to home also played a factor here as he mentioned when he revealed his decision.

The good news for the Tar Heels is that they already have two tight ends committed in this class. 3✮ Ryan Ward committed back in April and seemed unaffected by the offer he received from Alabama back at the being of the month. Fellow 3✮ Timothy Lawson announced his commitment to play both football and baseball just days later. He is a legitimate baseball prospect that could have to make a difficult choice at some point, so that is why the Tar Heels were still pursuing Duff Jr. At the least, Lawson will be with the football team when he first arrives to campus, something the Tar Heels may need with Bryson Nesbit and Kamari Morales possibly departing after this season.
