Two of the Tar Heels' remaining targets in the 2024 football recruiting cycle revealed their top schools lists on Tuesday.
3✮ DL Marcus Downs, who was just on campus this past weekend for his official visit, cut his list down to five. The Tar Heels are joined by Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Tennessee as those that remain in the running for him. The Tar Heels have already laid their plan out for the South Carolina interior defensive linemen and it looks like they established themselves as a contender over the weekend. Downs does not have any other official visits locked down according to 247Sports, but he is in talks with each of the other three finalists as well as Miami on scheduling those.
The other player to announce his list was 3✮ ATH Carlos Mitchell. The Tar Heels are among the group of six still remaining for the recent offer from the state of Florida. Kentucky, Penn State, Purdue, South Florida and West Virginia are the other schools that remain in the running. The Tar Heels have to feel like they are in an advantageous position in this recruitment as the only confirmed official visit so far. The staff will host him for that official visit starting on Friday.
