The first weekend of official visits for the 2024 cycle is underway for the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill as the team looks to add some talent to a class that lacks the punch that the other classes under Mack Brown have had. Last night, we got the news that 2024 4✮ ATH Jonathan Paylor would be taking an official visit to Chapel Hill this weekend and on Friday afternoon they got more good news from another 4✮ in-state target.
Earlier this afternoon, dual-sport athlete James Nesta announced his top three schools before heading on the road to one of his finalists, Miami, for an official visit. The Tar Heels join the Hurricanes and the Oklahoma Sooners as those that will have a shot to land the No. 31 linebacker in the class according to 247Sports Composite player rankings.
While the Tar Heels have to feel good that they are one of the final three, they are not the leader for him at this time. Miami seems to have established themselves as the favorites for him and they will have the chance to seal the deal this weekend. If he leaves this weekend without committing then the Tar Heels can start feeling more confident about their chances. The Tar Heels have always seemed to have success with the football-baseball dual athletes and if they can get him on campus for his official visit later in the month, they may have a shot to walk away with a big commitment.
