The Tar Heels have ramped up their efforts on the recruiting trail since Bill Belichick and Michael Lombardi were officially announced as head coach and general manager, scheduling a ton of different visits for this week.

Among those who will be on this week will be South Carolina tight end transfer Connor Cox, who swapped out his scheduled visit to NC State for the trip to Chapel Hill according to Adam Gorney of Rivals on Sunday night. This comes after he finished up an official visit to Kansas over this weekend and is nearing a decision per Gorney.

Cox, who was a 3✮ recruit in the 2023 class, was sparingly used in the Gamecocks offense in his two seasons with the team. He played in just nine games with the team, catching one pass for nine yards and a touchdown in 40 snaps.

This is the first tight end that the team will host in the transfer portal, but it might not be the last. With Bryson Nesbit expected to go to the NFL and John Copenhaver graduating, the team is in need of some depth in that room, especially with the team not landing one in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Cox feels like a low risk, high reward type pick up who could thrive in a room that has had a lot of success the last couple of years under Freddie Kitchens.
