Heel Tough Blog: Who's Next to Commit?

The Tar Heels have begun to heat up on the 2021 recruiting trail with the commitment of Caleb Hood and Power Echols within the span of six days. With Junior Day having taken place on Saturday and a second one coming up this weekend, the Tar Heels remain on commitment watch. The question for many is, who may be that person to pull the trigger and commit to the Heels? Here’s a look at the top three candidates to commit next.

2021 4SDE Jahvaree Ritzie- Glenn (Kernersville, NC)

Ritzie has been a frequent visitor to campus since the beginning of his recruitment and he was on campus once again this past weekend for Junior Day. Following Echols commitment, he took to social media and put out a tweet admiring the decision. Ritzie has strong relationships with both Carolina and NC State, but the Tar Heels have appeared to gain an edge here recently. Echols commitment seemed to make a big impression on Ritzie and with the momentum that his recruitment has right now, he is a good candidate to be the next player to commit to this 2021 class.

2021 3WR J.J. Jones- Myrtle Beach (Myrtle Beach, SC)

Jones was on campus this weekend and seemed to have a great visit. Wide receiver is a need for this team and locking down commitments early is a big deal in this cycle. Jones really seemed to enjoy the attention that he received from the Tar Heel fanbase to go along with the strong overall visit. It seems like there is a solid chance that Jones could jump on this offer after this weekend’s visit.

2022 4DT Curtis Neal- Hough (Cornelius, NC)

Neal’s connection to Carolina can’t be denied after his most recent visit to campus. The mountainous 2022 nose tackle has spoke extremely highly of his visit last weekend to Chapel Hill. It’s still extremely early in his recruitment, but Neal really seemed to love what he saw from the staff in his visit to campus. Don’t be shocked if Neal goes ahead and jumps on the offer in the near future, especially if he has another strong visit to campus.
