Heel Tough Blog: Who’s Next to Commit?

This has been a crazy week for some of the Tar Heels major targets in the 2022 class. On the plus side, the Tar Heels landed their first commitment in nearly four months when Beau Atkinson announced his commitment to the class on Wednesday evening, but they did see 4✮ S target Sherrod Covil and 4✮ RB target Michael Allen announce their commitments elsewhere. This was the first big week of decisions that we have seen for the 2022 class in a while and those decisions should only continue to pour in over the next couple of weeks. With that, some more major Tar Heel targets will likely be heading off the board and there is a good chance that the next commit isn’t that far off. Here are the three names that we think you should keep an eye on that could be the next Tar Heel commit in the 2022 class.

Omarion Hampton

When Hampton scheduled his official visits for June, a list that lacked the Tar Heels, it appeared that the Tar Heels would be hoping to hang on to the lead that they seemed to have in the recruitment entering the month. Instead, the Tar Heels have appeared to grow their lead in his recruitment, evidenced by the crystal ball momentum that has continued to pick up throughout the month. Hampton is rumored to have already made three unofficial visits to campus this month, which shows that the Tar Heels are at least held in pretty high regard in this pursuit. With the Tar Heels looking as if they may be the clear leaders and the momentum that they look as if they are continuing to build upon, there is a great chance that Hampton could be the team’s next commitment in this 2022 class.

Jeadyn Lukus

The Tar Heels have made an unreal push over the past few months for Lukus and the official visit that he took back on the first weekend of June to Chapel Hill has appeared to close them as nearly neck-and-neck with the Clemson Tigers. The Tigers did host him for an unofficial visit this past weekend and he is considering a visit to Ohio State, but there is no guarantee at this time that that visit will happen. Lukus confirmed to Adam Gorney or Rivals.com at the Rivals Five Star Challenge in Atlanta on Thursday that the decision will be made sometime this summer and the Tar Heels stand more than a puncher's chance here to be the pick in the end.

Daylen Everette

Everette will arguably be the headliner of the final weekend of official visits for the Tar Heels in June, as the staff gets the parting shot in a recruitment that may wrap up not too long after that. The Tar Heels appear to be the favorites to land his services, especially after the commitment of Toriano Pride Jr., a 4✮ cornerback prospect, to Clemson, the team that looks like the biggest challengers to the Tar Heels, on Friday afternoon. If the Tar Heels can nail this visit, it seems like they have a great chance to add Everette as one of the headliners of this 2022 class.
