Heel Tough Blog: Who’s Next to Commit? Pt. 2

A few weeks ago, we wrote an article looking at the Tar Heels next potential commit. Unfortunately, we could not have been further from right about those commitments, as neither Gabe Stephens or Gavin Blackwell were on our list. So, we’re going to give this another shot. Here are the Heel Tough Blog’s three targets that could be the next to commit to this 2021 Tar Heel class.

Doug Coats- Lake Norman Media Group

4RB Evan Pryor- Hough (Cornelius, NC)

Pryor released his top six school list last Thursday, with the Tar Heels comfortably among the group. Many believe that the decision will come sometime later this spring and the Tar Heels have a few things going in their favor. Not only has Carolina regained the crown as the state’s top destination amongst in-state schools and has begun to lock down the state like Mack Brown wants to. Pryor has taken notice and it helps that he and Blackwell have established a strong friendship throughout the process. Pryor would be a great fit in Phil Longo’s offense and this would be another huge step towards locking down the state even further.

Allison Lee Isley- Winston-Salem Journal

4OLB Raneiria Dillworth- Glenn (Kernersville, NC)

Dillworth’s recruitment is one that has moved quickly and that is why he appears on this list. The freakishly athletic linebacker, that has been compared to now-former Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons by our own Zack Hubbard, released a top five back on February 3rd with the Tar Heels amongst a group that included some big time recent offer from Alabama and Georgia. He was scheduled to visit former, but according to reports, had to cancel the visit due to some unforeseen circumstance. That plays in Carolina’s hands well, as does his relationship with 2021 4✮ SDE Jahvaree Ritzie, a player the Tar Heels are in a fierce battle with NC State to land at the moment. Tommy Thigpen and this staff have built some strong momentum with Dillworth and with the speed that his recruiting process has moved with over the past couple of months, it would not shock me if he is the next name to pop in favor of the Tar Heels.

Brian Westerholt- Concord Independent Tribune

3ILB Dameon Wilson- Kings Mountain (Kings Mountain, NC)

Like the two guys above, Wilson has released a small top schools list, but of the three, he probably has the deepest ties to Carolina. Wilson has already visited campus two times this winter and was also a frequent visitor to campus during the season, as well. Wilson’s teammate, 4✮ WR Kobe Paysour, isn’t quite as closely tied to Carolina as Blackwell and Ritzie are, but it seems that these two might not come as a package deal. Carolina’s strong standing with Wilson and need for inside linebacker help in this 2021 cycle make him a strong candidate to land on this list.
