Heel Tough Blog: Who Will Be the Next Tar Heel Commit?

Updated: May 23, 2021

You have to go all the way back to last summer to find the last time that we did one of these articles, but with a huge month of June full of official visits on the horizon and the Tar Heels last commitment in the 2022 class coming back in February, now feels like the perfect time to bring it back. The Tar Heels have established themselves as a major contender for some of the nation's top players and the wonder is if one of them could eventually pop and become the newest member of what is already an extremely talented 2022 haul. Here are three names to keep an eye on that could potentially be the next target to commit to the Tar Heels 2022 class.

4WR Andre Greene Jr.

The Tar Heels are closely tied with plenty of targets from the Tidewater area of Virginia, but the name that we have been the most of recently has been Greene's. He was one of many who were in attendance for the spring game back at the end of April and there has been a lot of buzz in the month following that visit. As of right now, the Tar Heels appear to be just one of two schools that will receive an official visit in June, joining the Georgia Bulldogs, who might currently be the biggest threat to the Tar Heels at this point. The good news is that the Tar Heels will be the second of those two, meaning they’ll be able to leave the final impression. If that visit was to go well, there is a chance that he could become the Tar Heels' next commitment in the 2022 class.

5CB Daylen Everette

This is a bold pick here for the Tar Heels next commitment, but may not be as out there as you’re thinking. When it comes to the guys that the Tar Heel staff has made the biggest pushes over the last few months, none seem to be as strong as the one Dré Bly has made with Everette. Carolina appears to be one of just two schools that Everette has set official visits with to this point and if that is the case, they will have a phenomenal opportunity to firmly establish themselves as the leaders. The Tidewater is an area where the Tar Heels have had plenty of success recently and is one that Everette has plenty of ties to, hailing from that area. If they can blow Everette away on his visit, there is a chance that he could become the newest commitment for this Tar Heel recruiting class and give them their first 5✮ of the class.

3ILB Deuce Caldwell

This is definitely the most risky of the picks in this article because of the elements it involves. The Tar Heels seemed to immediately enter the race for Caldwell’s services the minute they offered him back in mid-April and his choice to schedule an official visit with him all but confirmed that thought. Caldwell will visit Chapel Hill on June 15th, ten days ahead of his trip to Central Florida, another team who has been part of a big spring in terms of offers for him. The one he is waiting on, though, is Clemson, one that could come when he attends their camp later this summer. Until that of comes, however, the Tar Heels are one of just two to get an official visit amongst a pretty significant group of offers over the past couple of months is telling. This is another one of those visits where if the Tar Heels can impress and Clemson refuses to offer, there might be a chance that he goes ahead and commits.
