Heel Tough Blog: 2020 3✮ SDE Sean Martin Gives Carolina Seventeenth Commitment of 2020 Cycle

The Tar Heels 2020 class continues to get stronger, as the class landed its seventeenth commitment of the class on Monday afternoon. That’s when 2020 3✮ SDE Sean Martin committed to Carolina via Twitter, following his official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend.

Martin, who is entering his senior season at Bluefield High School in Bluefield, WV, finished last season with 144 total tackles and 17.0 sacks, both sensational that show his play as a hand-in-dirt defensive end or as a stand-up space-controlling outside linebacker.

Martin will fit well in Jay Bateman’s defense that thrives with athletes like himself. Martin is a nice addition for this class, as his speed-based pass rushing ability counteracts A.J. Beatty’s physical and technical pass rushing style. Martin utilizes the shoulder dip quite often on tape and that combined with his speed makes it difficult for tackles to get their hands on him. Martin is quick off the line giving him an advantage early in the rep and is one of the main reasons that he lives in offensive backfields. Martin didn’t play against the highest level of competition at the high school level, but he definitely looks the part of a player that can help the Heels at a position of need at outside linebacker.

With Martin’s commitment, the Tar Heels 2020 class now still ranks 9th overall in the 2020 247Sports Composite Rankings, but pulls them closer to 8th place Florida. The 2020 class also remains 3rd in the ACC.
