Heel Tough Blog: 2021 3✮ OG Jared Wilson Decommits from Carolina

Andrew Dye- Winston-Salem Journal

For the first time in this 2021 class, the Tar Heels have lost one of their committed prospects. 3✮ OG Jared Wilson announced on Monday that he has decommitted from the Tar Heels class via social media and flipped back to Georgia, a school he was committed to from November 2019 through February of 2020.

Wilson had been committed to the Tar Heels since April 17th when he was part of a double commitment along with 4✮ LB Ranieria Dillworth. With his decommitment, the Tar Heels lose the No. 22 offensive guard in the class and No. 24 player in the state of North Carolina and now have just one offensive lineman committed to the 2021 class. The good news for the Tar Heels is that they are not scheduled to lose a single scholarship guy from the team at year’s end, but it still feels like this staff wanted to add at least two bodies on the line in this class.

Losing Wilson’s commitment won’t drop the Tar Heels down the 247Sports Overall composite team rankings, but does bring teams like Miami and Florida right to their doorsteps. It’s hard to be overly concerned about a team whose class is still ranked top ten in the country and trails on Clemson in the ACC rankings, but July was a tough month for the Tar Heels on the recruiting trail.
