After this Saturday’s loss to James Madison, things may feel a little bleak for the Tar Heels, but we’re here to try to provide you with a little hope for the future.
On Friday night, we traveled to Pfafftown, NC for a look at the Tar Heels’ 2025 4✮ QB commit Bryce Baker and his East Forsyth team as they took on conference foe Reagan in hopes of staying undefeated. He and his teammates were able to do just that with a 69-21 win that saw Baker shine once again.
Baker only played in three quarters due to the blowout nature of the game, but he was impressive on Friday night. He completed 17 of his 18 pass attempts for 213 yards and four touchdowns and added 12 yards rushing on six carries before exiting the game late in the third quarter. With this performance, Baker has thrown for 1,288 yards and posted a 14-1 touchdown to interception ratio in the first four games of his senior season.
There was so much to like about what we saw Baker on Friday night. At 6’2.5, 195 lbs., Baker has a good frame and his delivery is compact, allowing him to release the ball quickly. The arm strength is there and the accuracy is tremendous, especially on the throws to the sideline on deep passes as evidenced in his final throw of the night when he dropped in a perfect deep ball to wide receiver Corey Blair. He did a good job of processing things, getting through his reads efficiently and effectively, allowing him to complete all but one of his passes. He moved extremely well in and out of the pocket and looked good throwing on the move and when off platform. When he did take off and run he was effective, showing good speed and vision that allows him to pick up significant yards when needed.
Baker lives up to his top 200 ranking and he looks like he has the making of the next great quarterback in Chapel Hill.
