Hubert Davis and his staff have been busy this summer, looking to land the best high school talent in the 2025, and 2026 recruiting classes. To no avail though, they’ve yet to land a player in either class, despite handing out a number of offers, to the best both classes have to offer. The good news is that for the most part, Carolina is still in the running for the best players in both classes, and over the last week or so, they’ve learned where they stand with the best prospects. Here’s an update, on where Carolina stands with some of the best high school players in the country.
AJ Dybantsa
Let’s start with the #1 player in the 2025 class, AJ Dybantsa, who earlier today, cut his recruitment down to just 7 schools, with UNC making the cut. Dybantsa is coming off a dominant Peach Jam, where he averaged over 23 points per game. With Carolina making the final 7, they’ll have their hands full with Alabama, Auburn, BYU, Kansas State, Kansas, and Baylor. It is important to know that he transferred to Utah Prep for his season of high school basketball. Whether you want to read too much into that or not, it squarely puts BYU arguably at the top of his list, as of right now.
Caleb Wilson
Earlier this week, 2025 five-star power forward, Caleb Wilson, trimmed his recruitment down to 12 schools, with UNC making the cut as well. Carolina joins a widespread list of schools, that includes Arkansas, Oregon, USC, Duke, Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, UCF, and Kentucky.
Derek Dixon
Also earlier this week, 2025 four-star combo guard, Derek Dixon narrowed down his recruitment to six schools, and Carolina is among the finalists. His finalists include Arizona, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Virginia. He has already scheduled official visits this fall to UNC, Arizona, and Vanderbilt. He’s ranked 55th in the ESPN top 100 prospects for 2025.
Isaiah Denis
Yesterday, 2025 four-star point guard, Isaiah Denis cut down his recruitment to 10 schools, and Carolina was once again a finalist for his services. His finalists include Kansas, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Wake Forest. He has 5 visits scheduled, but none include a trip to Chapel Hill. Instead, he’ll visit Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Miami, Michigan and Tennessee.
Darryn Peterson
Lastly, earlier this week, 2025 five-star combo guard, Darryn Peterson began to finalize his recruitment, andd in the process, eliminated UNC from his recruitment. The finalist for Peterson include USC, Washington, Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, Ohio State, Kentucky, and Louisville.
