The Tar Heels are in the process of trying to flip 2027 4✮ CB Kenton Dopson III from Miami and on Thursday night he revealed that he is taking a significant step towards doing that this weekend.

As he announced via social media, Dopson will be taking an official visit to Chapel Hill Saturday through Sunday, which will include attending today’s game against the Richmond Spiders. With this being an official visit, it appears that Dopson has also made the decision to reclassify to the 2026 class, a move that he has been contemplating recently according to both major recruiting sites.

Dopson, the No. 84 overall prospect and No. 10 cornerback in the 2027 class according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, is in the midst of his junior season at Miami Norland High School in Miami, FL. Unfortunately, his stats for this season are unavailable on MaxPreps, but when we look back to last year, he finished with 16 total tackles, three interceptions and 16 passes defensed in eleven games. The year prior as a freshman, he played in just seven games and collected 13 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and an interception.

Dopson has been committed to Miami since March 13th, but that could be coming to an end soon. Last week, the Tar Heels received predictions from both Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of Rivals to flip his commitment. The expectation is that a good visit with all of the right stuff coming from the coaching staff could mean a commitment for the Tar Heels in the coming days.
