The basketball season may have ended roughly 3 weeks ago with a loss in the national title game, but the work hasn’t stopped for Hubert Davis and his staff on the recruiting trail, as they have been busy recruiting 5-star prospect, and #1 player in the 2023 class, Gregory “GG’ Jackson. There was a belief that Jackson was going to commit shortly after the NCAA Tournament, but that didn’t come to fruition. He did tell Jeff Borzello from ESPN last night at an event, that he’s 100% going to announce his decision next week. Hubert Davis and his staff were in attendance last night to watch him play, as they've been recruiting him hard since last summer. The Tar Heels are the perceived favorite for Jackson, but he's still being recruited hard by the new South Carolina head coach, Lamont Paris, the new UMass coach, Frank Martin, and you can’t rule out the Duke Blue Devils just yet either.
The potential commitment of Jackson would continue the strong start to recruiting under Hubert Davis, following what he did last summer to bring in a deep class this upcoming season. As for the 2023 class, that Jackson would be joining unless he reclassified, Carolina already has a commitment from 5-star Simeon Wilcher. The landing of Jackson would give Carolina their first #1 overall recruit, since landing Harrison Barnes back before the 2010-11 season.
