The Tar Heels are still on the hunt for a few more position coaches to round out the main coaches on their staff, but it appears that the team has added a young defensive analyst in the meantime.
Via an announcement on his Twitter page on Tuesday, Arizona defensive analyst Ty Nichols looks as if he is taking a job with the Tar Heels in some capacity.
Nichols, who was a former walk-on fullback and defensive end for Wyoming, spent the 2021-23 seasons as a defensive graduate assistant before being elevated to a defensive analyst role with the program this year. He helped with both the defensive line and linebackers this season, so he could be set for a similar role with the Tar Heels.
Prior to his time in Tucson, Nichols was on the football staff at Texas Tech while he pursued his degrees in mathematics and civil engineering before he returned home to Idalou, TX to coach at Idalou High School.
This addition may not seem like a big deal, but this could be a very helpful addition when it comes to establishing a vital recruiting pipeline. Nichols has deep ties to the state of Texas having recruited the state for Arizona the last four years and that is something that Bill Belichick will likely look to take advantage of.
