Heel Tough Blog: Daylen Everette Commitment Preview

Saturday is going to be a huge day for the Tar Heels on the 2022 recruiting trail, as two of the top targets remaining in the class get set to announce their decisions.

The first of the two decisions will be the one that carries the most weight as 2022 4✮ CB Daylen Everette will announce his commitment just prior to his return to IMG Academy for his senior season. The announcement will take place live on CBS Sports HQ at 5:00 PM EST where he will decide between a final five of North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State and Oregon.

It felt like the Tar Heels were the slight leader coming into the month of June, but as we enter the final hours before the commitment, it feels like the waters have been muddied just a bit. The Tar Heels still appear to have a chance here, but at the same time, it feels like Clemson has made a major push here to make this a battle that could come down to the final hours for his commitment. The good is that the Tar Heels are still hanging around, but the bad news is that there is a heightened sense of uneasiness that has crept in.

The prediction forecasts between the two major sites don’t really seem to provide much clarity either, but are to lean Clemson as of this morning. 247Sports has just one crystal ball cast for him so far, one that was in the favor of the Tar Heels, but was flipped earlier this morning in favor of Clemson. As for the Rivals Futurecast predictions, the Tar Heels have received just one of the last five predictions that have been cast, with the last four going the way of the Tigers. The closer the commitment gets, the more likely it looks like the Tar Heels are going to miss here.

Landing Everette would be yet another huge statement to the rest of the country, but things still appear up in the air as of right now. If the Tar Heels pick up his commitment, he would immediately become the headliner of another strong class for Mack Brown and company. However, with the recent rumors, it’s starting to appear less and less likely that the Tar Heels won’t be searching for another headliner to this class.

Prediction: Clemson
