Heel Tough Blog: Heels Land First Commit of the 2021 Class

Following in the footsteps of the football program, Carolina Basketball landed its first commit of the 2021 class in Dontrez Styles. Styles became the latest player from Kinston,NC to commit to play for the flagship university, following in the footsteps of Jerry Stackhouse and Reggie Bullock. .He committed to Carolina after being offered back in March. Styles had offers from Clemson, Maryland, N.C. State, Georgetown, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, and Louisville, before settling on North Carolina. He’s ranked as the 57th player in the 2021 class, and the 12th rated power forward.

Listed at 6-6, Styles has the ability to play both forward positions. He’s best known for his relentless energy and effort, which is contagious to all those that play with him. In addition to his energy, he’s a skilled rebounder, and has the ability to defend multiple positions on the court. His offensive game will need to continue to develop to not only fit the UNC system, but the modern game in general. With his tireless work ethic, his continued development should be expected, and by the time he steps foot on campus, he should be able to contribute right away.
