The Tar Heels are preparing for the third of four official visit weekends and they will have a big in-state receiver that will be amongst that group.
After originally appearing as if he would not visit Chapel Hill this summer, 2025 4✮ WR Shamarius Peterkin was a member of the small group that was on campus this weekend. Peterkin, the No. 8 player in the state of North Carolina, is just the second uncommitted prospect from the home state to officially visit campus this month, joining 3✮ EDGE Taeshawn Alston, who was on campus with him this weekend.
Peterkin would be a nice addition to a Tar Heels class that currently lacks a receiver commit. In three years at the high school level, he has caught 63 passes for 1,252 yards and 19 touchdowns with the bulk of that production coming last season (42 rec, 824 yds, 12 TD).
In terms of where the Tar Heels stand in this race, let's just say there is a lot of work to be done. NC State, whom he visits next week, is perceived as the heavy favorites right now, while Virginia Tech, which he visited the first month of the week, is seen as the biggest threat. The Tar Heels needed to really impress this weekend to have any chance in this recruitment. Hopefully they were able to do that.
