One of the easiest players to root for on this 2026 Tar Heel football team is junior wide receiver Jordan Shipp and, on Tuesday, he landed on a preseason watch list.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy announced their list of 113 student athletes that they were recognizing heading into the season and Shipp was the Tar Heels representative.
The Wuerffel Trophy is awarded each year to a player that shows a commitment to community service, excellence in the classroom and success on the field. The winner will be awarded in December during the Home Depot College Football Awards ceremony.
Last year, Shipp led the Tar Heels in receptions (60), receiving yards (671) and receiving touchdowns (6) on his way to earning All-ACC honorable mention.
On top of that, he was a 2026 ACC Top Six for Service Award recipient after spending the season visiting the UNC Children’s Hospital, working with Habitat for Humanity and volunteering at TABLE, an organization that provides healthy food and nutrition education for kids in Orange County. He also has taken visits to the SECU house to serve meals to patients and their families who travel great distances to UNC hospitals for serious procedures and illnesses.
In the classroom, Shipp was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and earned All-ACC Academic honors and ACC Honor Roll recognition. On campus, he has been recognized as a Tar Heel Scholar-Athlete, Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete and took home the UNC Chancellor’s Jim Tatum Memorial Award.
Shipp is an excellent student athlete that leads in a majority of different ways on and off the field and should be one of the fan favorites heading into this season.
