Heel Tough Blog: Josh Downs Announces His Return

Earlier this week, the Tar Heels announced that they were still monitoring the statuses of three offensive skill position players who are striving to play this weekend. On Thursday, one of those three took to social media to reveal that he was officially returning to the field this weekend against Notre Dame.

After missing each of the past two games, preseason second team All-American wide receiver Josh Downs will make his return to the field. He suffered a right knee injury in the team’s season opener against Florida A&M on his second touchdown catch of the night. That slowed down his junior season before it even really got started, as he looks to follow up a record-setting sophomore season where he set the single-season school records for receptions (101) and receiving yards (1,335).

He joins offensive tackle Spencer Rolland and safety Don Chapman as guys that will return to the field this weekend after missing at least one game. Meanwhile, fellow wide receiver Antoine Green, who has missed the entirety of the season so far with a collarbone injury suffered in camp, and running back Caleb Hood, who has been dealing with a hamstring, will continue to be monitored and will be game time decisions as of right now.
