The past week has been pretty silent for the Tar Heels on the transfer portal front, but on Monday morning, the team got back to work as they added a commitment to their offensive backfield out of the SEC.

As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports/Rivals, LSU running back transfer Kaleb Jackson committed to the Tar Heel staff over the weekend. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Jackson, who measures in at 6’0, 234 lbs., is a former 4✮ prospect out of high school that played in 30 games in his career at LSU. So far in his career, he has carried the ball 82 times for 331 yards and four touchdowns and caught 17 passes for 132 yards. After two seasons of solid production as a depth running back, Jackson saw limited action this season, playing in four games before sitting out the remainder of the season to preserve his redshirt. His most successful season came as a true freshman in 2023, where he carried the ball 31 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns, caught six passes for 53 yards and averaged 22.6 yards per return on 11 kickoff returns.

Jackson’s commitment is a nice boost for a backfield that felt like it needed another body heading into the season. He will bring a violent running style with him that will be welcomed in just about any backfield and could serve as a nice option in that running back room that can help wear opponents down. With running back now taken care of, let’s hope the attention will shift to the trenches where the team could still use a couple of additions.
