For the first time in what feels like forever, the Tar Heels are on commitment watch for a major target in the 2023 class. On Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, 2023 4✮ S Michael Daugherty will announce his commitment, selecting between a final seven of Carolina, Auburn, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Miami and Texas.
Daugherty heads into his commitment fresh off of a three-day official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend, which included him attending the spring game. The reactions to the visit from both Daugherty on social media and the recruiting experts seem to be very positive and seem to have the Tar Heels in a good spot heading into the decision. It seems like it will ultimately come down to the Tar Heels and LSU, the official visit that he took the weekend prior to his trip to Carolina.
Even with the rave reviews that the Tar Heels were receiving after his official visit this past weekend, the experts are still leaning in the direction of Brian Kelly and LSU. As of Tuesday night, every single prediction for Daugherty between the three major sites is in favor of LSU, including all six on Rivals. Unfortunately for the Tar Heels, the majority of those predictions were cast either Monday or Tuesday following the conclusion of this weekend’s official visit.
It feels like the Tar Heels will go into tomorrow’s announcement hopeful after what felt like a successful weekend with him on campus, but the experts seem to be leaning strongly towards him ending up in Baton Rouge. With this many predictions in the Tigers' favor right now, it’s hard to go against the thought that he will be wearing purple and gold tomorrow night.
