The Tar Heels have started to add some significant headliners to the 2027 class and they did so once again on Friday afternoon.

As he announced via live stream on social media, 2027 4✮ LB Theo Wilson has committed to UNC over offers from LSU, Louisville and Virginia.

Wilson officially visited Chapel Hill back on the weekend of June 12th, where the Tar Heels took a significant lead for him, something that they held onto despite his last minute decision to officially visit LSU last weekend.

Wilson, the No. 352 overall prospect and No. 29 linebacker in the class, hails from Armwood High School in Tampa, FL. Last year, as a junior, he finished with 96 total tackles, 34.0 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, 17 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and two pass breakups. As a sophomore in 2024, he had 39 total tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and one pass breakup.

This is a massive pickup for the Tar Heels on the defensive side of the football. Wilson, who measures in at 6’2, 235 lbs. has plenty of size and versatility that could allow him to play off-ball or on the edge at the college level. He has amazing speed and burst that allows him to fire off into the backfield and also allows him to cover sideline-to-sideline. He does a great job of shedding blocks with the combination of speed and physicality and he is really tough to stay in front of when he dips his shoulder. His football intelligence is extremely evident and he combines that with some ridiculous athleticism that allows to frequently make plays on the ball. He immediately becomes the best coverage linebacker in this class for the Tar Heels, something that is more than welcome in the 2027 class. This is an outstanding addition to the Tar Heels linebacking corps that could see some snaps early in his time in Chapel Hill.

With his commitment, the Tar Heels now sit with 17 commitments in the 2027 class, including four at the linebacker position.
