The Tar Heels have started to pick things up in the transfer portal in the last few days with new targets emerging and a visit for one of the targets that they offered early in the week. Here is a look at the latest storylines in the portal for the team as we close in on one week since the opening of the first window.

Shifting sides of a rivalry has become more commonplace in the transfer portal era, but this would be a first for the Tar Heels. On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos reported on Saturday the staff has been in contact with DT Aeneas Peebles, who spent the last four years in Durham with the Blue Devils. This season, he put up career-best numbers in total tackles (40), tackles for loss (8.5) and sacks (4.0). While this would be a nice addition, he just took a visit to Missouri and a host of other power conference teams are interested in him, meaning there is a lot that has to happen for him to end up in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels have just four official targets as of right now and one of those four took a visit to campus on Friday. Sampson is one of the team’s two offensive line targets from North Texas and appears to be the player with the closest ties to the Tar Heels in the portal right now. This visit and his relationship with offensive line coach Randy Clements, who recruited him to Denton, make the Tar Heels a strong favorite to land him.

This is strictly a suggestion from an account on social media, but it is an interesting one to see, especially after Tez Walker’s decision. The former 5✮ prospect had his season plagued by injury this year after a really productive sophomore season for the Crimson Tide. There are conflicting opinions as to whether or not the Tar Heels need to go into the transfer portal to find a wide receiver, but this would be hard to pass up if he is interested.
