Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Suspended True Freshman WR Indefinitely
Following an arrest on Tuesday, the university has suspended true freshman wide receiver Keeyun Chapman indefinitely.
Chapman was arrested and charged during a traffic stop of fellow true freshman receiver C.J. Sadler on Tuesday night at 9:30 PM at 1050 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Chapel Hill. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon (handgun).
In a statement issued by the university on Thursday morning following the resignation of Steve Belichick, the suspension was confirmed. “Chapman's suspension, like the actions resulting from the investigation, reflect the University's commitment to accountability and the well-being of its student athletes. We believe the steps announced today will help make Carolina Football a stronger program and one that continues to earn the pride of the entire Carolina community.”
Chapman has yet to play in a game this season after enrolling back in the summer. He was originally scheduled to enroll back into the winter, but wasn’t able to due to an unspecified reason.
Chapman, the No. 233 overall prospect and No. 39 wide receiver in the 2026 class, came to Chapel Hill from Jackson High School in Jackson, AL. Last year, as a senior, he caught just 16 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns in seven games. As a junior, though, he caught 51 passes for 1322 yards and 17 touchdowns on his way to all-region honors and a 4A state title. The year prior, he hauled in just 18 passes but turned it into 546 yards and nine touchdowns.
