The Tar Heels are continuing their search for late additions to the 2025 class and the staff has found another at defensive tackle.
As first reported by Inside Carolina’s Don Callahan, 2025 unranked DL Kamarion Thomas has announced his commitment to Carolina after receiving an offer earlier this morning via a telephone coach with Bill Belichick.
Thomas just finished his senior season at Erasmus Hall High School in Queens, NY where he had more than 40 total tackles and at least 20 tackles for loss according to Callahan. Prior to that, he spent his first three seasons at the high school level at Christ the King High School in Brooklyn.
Thomas, whose first offer came from the Tar Heels, is probably the player that will need to be developed the most in this class. There are certainly some things to like about his game, especially the violence that he tackles with and the motor that he consistently plays with. He also does a good job of getting off blocks, but a large part of that is the fact that he is playing against a low level of competition. There is much technicality to his shedding of blocks and his size and strength may not allow him to get off of blocks nearly as easily at the college level. At 6’3, 265 lbs., he will need to add a lot of size to play in the middle or make the full transition to edge rusher where he will have to work on those technical pass rush moves and his ability to set the edge in the run game. There is a lot of work to do here, but clearly the staff likes the potential that they see.
With his commitment, the Tar Heels are up to ten commits that they expect to sign with the team on Wednesday during National Signing Day. The class does not move, though, remaining No. 58 overall and No. 14 in the ACC according to 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
