Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Biggest Transfer Target Commits to Purdue

Jordan Prather- USA Today Sports

The Tar Heels don’t appear as if they are going to be very active this transfer window, but the team did have one big name target that they were after, cornerback Nyland Green. Yesterday afternoon, though, he revealed he will be heading elsewhere.

Green, the No. 6 overall transfer in this window according to 247Sports transfer portal rankings, announced this morning via social media that he will be transferring to Purdue with two years of eligibility remaining. Green took an official visit to West Lafayette last weekend and chose them over the Pittsburgh Panthers, who became a strong contender for him down the stretch. The Tar Heels were set to host him last weekend, but he did not take that trip, instead opting to head to his eventual landing spot.

Green didn’t play much in his three seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, but he has plenty of potential as a former 5✮ prospect coming out of high school. This would have been a great addition to a Tar Heel cornerback room that needs a starter opposite of Marcus Allen if they want to keep Alijah Huzzie in the slot.

The Tar Heels made a very solid addition on Monday in the form of NC State transfer Jakeen Harris, but it feels like they still need to add someone at corner in the portal, even if it means adding someone similar to Armani Chatman, who they added this past year and has played a big role for them down the stretch.
