For the second time today the Tar Heels have had a member of the 2025 defense enter the transfer portal, this time at defensive back.

As first reported by Inside Carolina, Tar Heel defensive back Ty White will enter his name into the transfer portal when it opens in January after spending two years with the program. He will have three years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.

In his two seasons with the Tar Heels, White played in 12 games, with the majority of his action coming as a freshman. In 82 snaps between defense and special teams in 2024, he finished with three tackles. This year, in just 37 snaps, he was still able to corral three total tackles, but gave up 47 yards on four receptions in the game against Clemson.

With his departure, the Tar Heels do lose some depth at nickelback and cornerback, but the team is still in good shape. Kaleb Cost, Jaiden Patterson and Tre Miller, who were all ahead of him on the depth chart, are all expected to return next season as of right now and the team is getting plenty of young guys into this room from the high school ranks.
