The Tar Heels were looking to add a second commitment to the 2027 class at the off-ball linebacker spot and they were able to accomplish that on Tuesday evening with one of their top targets at the position.

As he announced via social media, 2027 3✮ LB Zykee Scott has committed to UNC over Georgia Tech, Colorado and others. This decision comes after he took an official visit to Chapel Hill back on the weekend of May 29th, after which he announced that the Tar Heels were one of his final two.

Scott, the No. 515 overall prospect and No. 45 linebacker in the 2027 class according to Rivals Industry Rankings, is preparing for his senior season at La Salle College High School in Philadelphia, PA. Last year, as a junior, Scott collected 58 total tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and one pass breakup for a La Salle College team that won a 6A PIAA state title with a 13-1 record.

Scott, who measures in at 6’1, 220 lbs., is a downhill linebacker that brings some nice athleticism to the table. He does a good job of consistently shedding blocks to be able to make tackles in the gap he is covering and is a strong wrap-up tackler. The athleticism shows up when he has to drop in coverage, something we’d love to see him do a little more often. He has a high motor that is shown by how he runs plays down from behind, something that seems like a key attribute for Bill Belichick players to have. This is a promising addition to the Tar Heel linebacking corps and could be one that pays dividends if he is developed right.

With the commitment, the Tar Heels now have eight in the class including two at the off-ball linebacker position. The commitment has allowed the Tar Heels to jump to No. 59 in the overall rankings and No. 16 in the ACC rankings.
