Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Land Tennessee Transfer Slot Receiver

One of the Tar Heels' biggest needs in the transfer portal spring window was the wide receiver position and the team might have taken care of that need on Tuesday. After landing true freshman receiver Adrian Wilson last week, the Tar Heels have dipped into the transfer portal again this morning at receiver, this time in the slot.

As first reported by Inside Carolina, the Tar Heels have picked up a commitment from Tennessee transfer slot receiver Dayton Sneed. Sneed, who entered the portal last week, was planning on officially visiting UCLA and then stopping in Chapel Hill, but instead went ahead and put the trigger on his commitment to UNC. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at the college level.

Sneed, a former unranked prospect in the 2023 class, spent the last two years at Tennessee with the Volunteers and played sparingly. As a true freshman, he played in four games for the team, catching one pass for seven yards. This past season, he saw action in just three games, the majority of which came in the team’s game against Chattanooga, catching one pass for 12 yards.

This addition provides some nice depth at the position, but more importantly, this helps the team with the recruitment of his brother, a 4✮ tight end in the 2026 class. The question now becomes whether or not they are done recruiting this position in this portal cycle. Because of how closed off the program has been to the media, it’s hard to really know where exactly the unit sits at the position right now, which is incredibly frustrating.
