The Tar Heels are desperately searching for players to add to their extremely thin running back room and adding a second commitment to the 2025 class could be how they go about it. The team already hosted JUCO transfer Waymond Jordan Jr. on Saturday and on Sunday they hosted and offered an in-state high school prospect.
2025 RB Jariel Cobb took an official visit to Chapel Hill earlier today where he also received a scholarship offer. Cobb, who is unranked right now, decommitted from Air Force on Friday after committing to the academy back in July. He currently holds offers from Appalachian State, Bucknell, Cornell, Dartmouth, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, Maine, Marshall, Montana State, Morgan State and NC Central alongside the ones from UNC and Air Force.
Cobb just finished his senior season at Reidsville High School in Reidsville, NC where he put together a career year. In just 10 games, he ran for a career-high 1,533 yards and 23 touchdowns on just 142 carries and caught 23 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns on his way to first team all-conference honors. This followed a breakout junior season where he ran for 1,213 yards and 17 touchdowns on 154 carries, helping Reidsville win the 2A state title, the 23rd in program history.
The Tar Heels offer should vault them into the driver’s seat in this recruitment immediately. With the staff still searching for their first running back commitment out of the transfer portal and no sign of either of the running backs that entered the portal from this year’s roster, this might be the best path to adding to this room that desperately needs bodies.
