For the second time in the last 24 hours, the Tar Heels have seen a 2026 commit out of the state of the Mississippi back off his commitment.
As first reported by Chad Simmons of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels have lost the commitment of 2026 3✮ WR Darrion Kirksey. Kirksey had been committed to the team since April 4th.
It doesn’t appear that Kirksey is nearly as open to considering the Tar Heels moving forward as O’Mari Johnson was last night, meaning that his focus will likely turn to Ole Miss and Arkansas, the other two P4 offers that he holds at this time.
With his decommitment, the Tar Heels are now down to just 13 commits in their 2026 class and have lost both of their Mississippi commits. Like with Johnson, the Tar Heels are not in the worst shape at the receiver position thanks to commitments from Kei’Maurii Miles and Jaden Jefferson, but it does mean that the team needs to turn the heat back up in these position rooms to try to find replacements for them.
