For the second time in the 2027 recruiting class, the Tar Heels have lost their top commitment in the class to decommitment.

As first reported by Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, 2027 4✮ safety Marquis Bryant has decommitted from the Tar Heels following a visit earlier in the week to Tennessee as part of his spring visit schedule. He had been committed to UNC since December 16th.

Bryant's decommitment is a significant one, considering he is one of the top-rated prospects in the entire class at the safety position. This past season, Bryant, the No. 188 overall prospect and No. 19 safety in the class according to Rivals Composite, finished with 32 total tackles, seven interceptions and two forced fumbles for a Rolesville team that went 9-4 and made it to the third round of the NCHSAA 8A playoffs.

With his departure, the Tar Heels are back to just four commitments in the class. It also drops the class to No. 42 overall and No. 11 in the ACC according to Rivals Composite Team Rankings.
