After the retirement of 50-year coaching and advising veteran Darrell Moody earlier in the day, Inside Carolina is reporting that the senior advisor to the head coach, Sparky Woods, is stepping away from the program. According to the report, Woods, 70, will be looking for opportunities elsewhere.
Woods, like Moody, is a veteran of multiple decades of coaching and advising, including four separate stints as a head coach at the Division I level. Woods handled that senior advisor role for each of the last five years and was heavily involved in the analytical decisions on gameday.
The program announced earlier today that former linebacker Brian Simmons will fill the role that Moody left behind, but there is no immediate replacement in place for Woods.
