The Tar Heels missed on 2024 4✮ ATH Jonathan Paylor this evening, as the massive in-state target picked NC State over Carolina, South Carolina and others. Missing on a top 150 overall prospect and the No. 2 player in the home state is never great, but the good news is that the team does have one last target that can help them fill the slot receiver void that they have with this receiver class right now.
The Tar Heels did an outstanding job of making themselves a legitimate contender for Paylor after it looked for a while like they wouldn’t even get an official visit. Last weekend’s visit makes you wonder if this recruitment came down to the Wolfpack and the Tar Heels. In the end, the hard charge from NC State was just too much for the Burlington product to ignore.
With Paylor off the board, the team now has one target remaining in the 2024 class. 3✮ WR Javarius Green will announce his commitment on August 18th a month after he was expected to back in July. After the move to push the decision back, which seems to be because the date is special for the family, there was some worry about the Tar Heels standing as the favorite.
Michigan State and Alabama, his other two finalists seemed poised to pounce, especially with the Tar Heels’ focus on trying to land Paylor and fellow 4✮ Alex Taylor. Those worries have been quelled, though, after the team hosted him this past weekend for their Carolympics event while the Spartans and Crimson Tide did not receive visits. At this point, it seems inevitable that he will be the 26th and final commitment of the Tar Heels 2024 cycle.
