The Tar Heels are hunting for a lot in the transfer portal right now and one of those spots that they might be closing in on a commitment at is the tight end position.
According to a report from On3 Sports transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos, the Tar Heels are one of three schools still remaining in the hunt for Troy tight end transfer Brody Dalton. The Tar Heels are joined by Alabama and California as those with a shot to land him.
On Sunday evening, it was reported that Dalton will visit two of those three this week. He’ll start with a trip to Alabama on Wednesday and conclude his week with a trip to Chapel Hill on Friday.
Dalton spent each of the last two seasons with the Trojans after transferring in from UAB. In his two seasons with the Blazers, he played in just 11 games, catching just four passes for 63 yards leading to his transfer. After a slow first season at Troy (5 rec, 88 yds in nine games), he was more productive this season, catching 15 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
This would be a welcome addition to a tight end room that flashed in the ‘Practice Like a Pro’ event, but still lacks the experience after the graduations of Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver. Dalton doesn’t have the gaudy stats, but he did play 544 snaps last season, something that will be more than welcome in this Tar Heel tight end room that has played a combined 739 snaps between them, the majority of which comes from Jake Johnson.
