Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Talks With Belichick Ongoing

Bob Breidenbach- USA Today Network

The Tar Heels were expecting to have their coach by today, but instead there are still negotiations being conducted without a clear ending in sight.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Chris Low reported on Monday morning that the talks between UNC decision makers and legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick are ongoing and that a resolution is expected to take place this week.

According to the report, it’s not clear how deep the talks have gone with Belichick and some people with ties to him are skeptical that he would even accept the job.

The report also mentioned the scenario that we have been hearing for the last week about Stephen Belichick’s future being a part of the negotiations along with NIL, coaches salary and staff resources.

The most concerning part of the report was how Thamel and Low described the search as “scattered”. Board of Trustees chair John P. Preyer has supposedly been the guy pushing for Belichick the hardest and rallied support for his opinion in the past week.

This is a decision that should have been athletic director Bubba Cunningham’s to make, but clearly that’s not the case. Now, it appears that he and the other decision makers are backed into a corner which is far from ideal.
