Heel Tough Blog: Top In-State Recruit Sets Visit

According to Stock Risers, highly touted power forward De’Ante Green has set his dates to visit Chapel Hill, which will be June 11-12. Green is a 6-9 power forward from Asheville, NC who’s offer was still valid after the retirement of Roy Williams who offered Green, by new head coach Hubert Davis. Green has narrowed down his recruitment to UNC, Tennessee, and ACC foes Florida State, Wake Forest, NC State and Virginia Tech.

Green transferred from Christ School located in Arden, NC to Asheville Christian during the halfway point of the 2020-21 season, and propelled the Lions to a state championship after an 0-8 start to the season. He’s now in the process of preparing for the 2021 summer AAU circuit, as he’s a member of Team CP3, which is funded by former Wake Forest stand out and current Phoenix Sun Chris Paul. While that tie to Wake Forest would seem to give the Demon Deacons an advantage in the recruitment, Leaky Black also played for Team CP3 and wound up in Chapel Hill.

Green is the #1 player in the state of North Carolina for the 2022 class, and with half of his final six schools from his home state, it makes his recruitment all the more important. Since being named the head coach of the Tar Heels, Hubert Davis hasn’t landed a big time recruit from the high school ranks, as he’s had more success using the transfer portal to stock his roster with talent and depth. Landing a player the caliber of Green would not only give this staff some confidence and momentum on the recruiting trail, but reaffirm to ACC schools that North Carolina is still going to be a recruiting force, despite losing a Hall of Fame head coach to retirement. Looking at the roster, Green would have the chance to make an immediate impact upon arriving in Chapel Hill, as UNC lost four players to the transfer portal, and two others to the NBA Draft. With Brady Manek only having one season of eligibility left, there's going to be plenty of minutes available for a player that has the talent of De’Ante Green.
