Heel Tough Blog: Two Tar Heel Commits to Play in 2024 McDonald’s All-American Game

For the first time since 2020, the Tar Heels will be represented in the annual McDonald’s All-American Game.


The rosters, which were released on Tuesday afternoon, contain both of the Tar Heels 5✮ commits in the 2024 class. Guard Ian Jackson, the No. 9 overall player in the class according to 247Sports Composite player rankings, and wing Drake Powell, No. 10 overall, will both participate in the game as part of the East squad.


Jackson is in the midst of his final season at the prep level and is spending it with the Overtime Elite squad Jelly Fam OTE. So far this season in ten games, the Bronx, NY native is averaging 24.8 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game and 1.7 steals per game. He is shooting 46.0% from the field overall, 28.6% from three and 66.7% from the free throw line.


Powell is much deeper into his final season at the prep level, which he has chosen to spend at Northwood High School in Pittsboro, NC. In sixteen games so far this year, Powell is averaging 18.6 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, 2.3 steals per game and 1.3 blocks per game. He is shooting 56% from the field overall, 44% from three and 82% from the foul line.


The boys game along with the girls game will be played on Tuesday, April 2nd from the Toyota Center in Houston. The game is scheduled to tip at 9 PM on ESPN but will depend on the conclusion of the girls game beforehand.
